Ear microsuction

A miniature vacuum with gentle, controlled suction lifts the wax out while Michele watches closely.

Best for: wax deep in the canal, a perforated eardrum, previous ear surgery or grommets.
Works less well when: the wax is very hard and has not been softened first.

Warm water irrigation

The safer modern version of ear syringing. A machine controls a gentle flow of warm water that flushes softened wax out.

Best for: softened wax, and anyone who finds it more comfortable. Many patients find it quite pleasant.
Not suitable with: a perforated eardrum, recent ear surgery, grommets or an infection.

Manual removal

Where the wax is close enough and in the right position, Michele lifts it out with fine, sterile instruments.

Best for: wax near the entrance of the canal. Where possible, it is the safest option.
Not possible when: the wax sits too deep or the shape of the canal makes it hard to reach.

Michele shows you inside your ears on a camera screen first, and you pay only for the ears that need treatment.

Microsuction and irrigation

Not every clinic offers both. Michele uses whichever suits your wax, or both, for the same price.

Every appointment, whichever method

  • A look first. Michele checks your ears on camera and shows you the picture on screen.
  • A plain-English plan. She tells you what she has found and which method she will use, and why.
  • No treatment if it is not wax. If she finds an infection or another problem, she will not go ahead and will advise you to see your GP.
  • The result on screen. She shows you your ears again afterwards.
  • A free return visit if needed. If very stubborn wax will not all come out and you prepared with olive oil, the second visit is free.

How do I know which method I need?

You do not need to decide. Michele examines your ears first, explains what she finds and recommends the method that suits your wax.

Can more than one method be used in one appointment?

Yes. Very hard wax sometimes needs a little manual work or irrigation before microsuction, for example. Michele combines methods when that gives the best result.

Does it cost more to use two methods?

No. You pay per ear, £35 for one or £50 for both, however the wax is removed.

Can I ask for a particular method?

Yes. Michele will always try to accommodate a preference if it is safe and practical for your ears.

Who are the services for?

Adults aged 18 and over who know they have a wax build-up. All appointments are at the clinic in Woodthorpe; there are no home visits.

Do I need to do anything before booking?

Soften the wax with olive oil spray twice a day for three to five days, and at least two. Michele does not recommend sodium bicarbonate drops. How to prepare your ears
