Ear Cleaning Newton

Earwax is a natural substance produced in the ear canal. It serves to protect and moisturise the ear, keeping out dust, germs and other irritants. In most cases, our ears are self-cleaning and the wax will naturally move from part way down the canal to the outside of your ear.

However, some people can suffer from excess earwax or it may get stuck in their ears. This can cause discomfort or reduced hearing and require removal. Happy Ears earwax removal service is a safe and effective way of dealing with these issues. The procedure involves using special instruments to gently remove any blockages or build-up of wax from the ear canal. This helps restore comfort and hearing levels back to normal.

Our ears are designed to be self-cleaning, so for many people there is no need to remove earwax through a procedure. However, for some people, earwax can cause problems such as muffled hearing, tinnitus, earache, itching or discomfort. It is important to make sure that any symptoms you have are caused by earwax and not an infection or other problem before seeking treatment. We solely provide an ear wax removal service so if you are unsure what may be causing discomfort or hearing difficulties it may be worth consulting a GP first. If they confirm that the issue is due to compacted or excessive ear wax be sure to book in an appointment as soon as possible.

The building up of earwax is a very common occurrence and whilst it will gradually build up it may reach a threshold that causes discomfort and a more noticeable loss of hearing.

Earwax build-up is a common problem that can cause discomfort and hearing loss. It occurs when the wax accumulates in the ear canal, blocking sound from entering the ear. There are several causes of earwax build-up, including narrow or damaged ear canals, excessive hair growth in the ear canal, skin conditions affecting the scalp or around the ears, and inflammation of the ear canal (otitis externa or “swimmer’s ear”).

People who commonly need ear wax removal include those with narrow canals or suffer from above average hair growth down the canal of the ear. Some ear issues leading to inflammation will increase the production and subsequent build up of wax too. A skin condition in the near vicinity to the ear can also affect things as can your genetic make up which simple means you produce more wax. People who use hearing aids or headphones regularly are highly likely to suffer from a build up of ear wax too

Earwax Removal Newton

Ear wax can be a nuisance and have a big impact on your quality of life. It can cause feelings of being blocked, disorientation, tinnitus issues and even lead to severe ear infections. Fortunately, there are several effective ways to remove it such as microsuction and ear syringing, with microsuction being considered the safest and most preferred way to get rid of ear wax quickly and easily.

Using ear drops before your appointment is an important step in ensuring a successful wax removal. Ear drops are designed to soften the wax in your ear, making it easier for our audiology expert to remove during the procedure. We recommend using olive oil or almond oil ear drops at least twice a day (ideally three to four times) for up to five days prior to your appointment. Ear softening drops are readily available from most high street chemists but regular olive oil works well too.

Using ear drops before your appointment not only makes removal much easier and quicker, but also increases the chances of a successful ear microsuction. If we are unable to remove all the wax during the procedure, we will advise you on what to do next. It's important that you do try to follow our advice carefully in order to ensure that all of the wax can be removed safely and effectively.

At our clinic, we are experts in wax removal and have helped many people improve their lives by removing the wax that was causing them discomfort.

Various Levels and Types of Ear Wax

Video Ear Wax Examination Service

Whilst it is not every person's cup of tea, we also have the option of providing you with the ability to look at your own ear canal. Our clinician will perform an initial examination of your ear for wax build-up with a standard otoscope and if this does reveal that there is a significant accumulation of wax, that means you would benefit from having the wax removed, we can set things up so that you could have a quick look for yourself...

EAR MICROSUCTION Newton

Ear microsuction is a safe and effective way to remove earwax blockages. It involves the use of a gentle suction device, similar to a vacuum cleaner, which helps to loosen and remove any impacted earwax. The procedure is carried out by our trained professional who will assess your ear canal before beginning the process. Once your microsuction session is complete, we will use a Otoscope to check over your ears to ensure all impacted ear wax has been removed.

EAR SYRINGING Newton

Ear irrigation is also commonly known as ear syringing and is a technique used to remove earwax from the ear canal. Most people are familiar with the technique, which used to be the most common method or removing ear wax until microsuction became available. It involves pushing water through the ear canal to flush out the wax. This method can be very successful in removing wax, however it can also have side effects and possible complications if NOT done correctly,  which is why home DIY kits for this are not advisable and could result in ear infections or impacted earwax, which can cause further issues if not treated properly. In the hands of a professionally trained expert irrigation, rather than syringing,   continues to be an effective treatment.

Frequently asked Ear Wax Removal Newton questions:

  • Is wax removal safe?

Yes - if done by professionally trained ear wax removal experts as found at Happy Ears. Attempting to remove ear wax using a DIY approach can be dangerous.

  • Do I need a GP referral for you to remove my ear wax?

No. Although if you have already seen a  GP and know for sure that the issue with your ear is a wax build-up then this will give you peace of mind when booking with us. If we identify that there is not a wax issue but an underlying ear problem unrelated to a wax blockage we will let you know and not perform any precedure.

  • Do I need to do anything before booking an ear wax removal treatment?

Yes - If you have been advised to have your ear wax removed we recommend applying an olive oil spray to the affected ear or ears. This is available form most pharmacies to loosen the ear wax and should be applied for at least 2 days before your appointment,  ideally 3-5 days, twice a day. This will minimise the need for a second appointment.

We DO NOT recommend the use of sodium bicarbonate ear drops.

  • Which is the safest ear wax removal treatment?

This will depend on the position and nature of the wax build-up. If accessible, manual removal of ear wax is the safest method but often this option is not possible due to the position of the wax in the ear canal and the canal shape too. Microsuction is then the next safest option.

  • Why choose Happy Ears - Ear Wax Removal if I live in Newton?

We provide a competitively priced ear wax removal service carried out by trained professionals. We always conduct an initial ear inspection before any treatment to ensure it is safe to carry out and have a selection of ear wax removal techniques to use - ensuring we are able to get the best results compared to other clinics, which may only offer one method of ear wax removal.

  • Can I go on a flight after an ear wax removal treatment?

Not for at least 48 hours

  • Are there any age restrictions to your ear wax removal service?

There are no age restrictions to ear wax removal. However, for anyone under 18 written parental or guardian consent will be required. Following consultation and examination of the ears the clinition will decide whether or not ear wax removal should be carried out.

  • Does Happy Ears - Ear Wax Removal Clinic accomodate wheelchair access?

There are two small steps at the entrance to the clinic of 6 inches and 8 inches.

  • Can someone accompany me when having ear wax removal treatment?

Due to the nature of the procedure we only allow one other person to accompany the patient in the clinic if their consent is given.

From: Newton, Nottinghamshire To: 32 Herons Court, West Bridgford, Nottingham NG2 6QD Estimated Driving Time: Approximately 15–20 minutes Distance: Approximately 8 miles

Newton is a village and civil parish in the Rushcliffe district of Nottinghamshire, situated 1 mile south-west of East Bridgford and around 1 mile south-east of the River Trent, close to the junction of the A46 Fosse Way and the A6097 Wikipedia. Newton sits in a prime position between two of the East Midlands' most important arterial roads, making the drive to Happy Ears in West Bridgford one of the most direct and efficient journeys from any of the surrounding villages.

The village itself has a proud local heritage — the former RAF Newton site still contains several aircraft hangars, which are now used by businesses Wikipedia, and the area is rapidly growing with the extensive Newton Garden Village development bringing many new residents to the area in recent years.

1. From Newton village centre, head west along Main Street / Shelford Road, following signs for the A46 and West Bridgford. This quiet village road takes you quickly to the A46 junction at Margidunum — the site of the ancient Roman fort and settlement from which this area takes so much of its history. The A46 has two junctions with the local road network — the Margidunum junction serves the A6097 and the B692 Fosse Way, and Saxondale, 1.75km to the south, serves the A52 Planning.

2. At the A46 (Fosse Way) junction, turn right and head south-west on the A46 towards the Saxondale Roundabout. This is a short but well-signposted stretch of the ancient Roman Fosse Way — one of Britain's oldest roads, still very much in everyday use as a modern dual carriageway.

3. At the Saxondale Roundabout, where the A46 meets the A52, take the exit for the A52 westbound towards Nottingham and West Bridgford. The Saxondale Roundabout has the Shell Saxondale garage Wikipedia — a prominently visible landmark making this a very easy junction to identify. You are now on the A52 dual carriageway heading directly towards West Bridgford.

4. Continue west along the A52, passing the BP Pierrepont Filling Station and the well-known turn-off for Radcliffe-on-Trent on your right. Shortly after, the famous Holme Pierrepont National Watersports Centre — a world-class rowing and water sports venue — is visible to your left, set back from the road.

5. Continue along the A52 through the upgraded junctions at Stragglethorpe Road and Holme House, heading towards the well-known Gamston Roundabout where the A52 meets the A6011. The large Morrisons superstore on the Lings Bar Road is clearly visible as you approach — one of the most recognisable landmarks on this approach to West Bridgford.

6. At the Gamston Roundabout, take the exit for the A6011 Radcliffe Road heading west towards West Bridgford, Lady Bay and Trent Bridge. Follow this pleasant tree-lined road westbound through the Lady Bay residential neighbourhood, passing Lady Bay Primary School on your left.

7. Continue along Radcliffe Road into central West Bridgford, passing local shops, cafés, and the well-known West Bridgford Co-op on Bridgford Road — a familiar and reliable landmark confirming you are in the heart of West Bridgford.

8. Follow local signage into the NG2 6 residential area towards Herons Court. Use your satnav for the final short approach into the quiet residential close.

9. Arrive at 32 Herons Court, West Bridgford, NG2 6QD — Happy Ears Ear Wax Removal Clinic. Free on-street parking is available directly outside.

Local tip for Newton patients: This is one of the most direct and efficient routes of any surrounding village, making excellent use of the A46 and A52. The Gamston Roundabout is the one junction where brief queues can form at peak commuter times. Allow a few extra minutes if travelling on weekday mornings before 9am or between 4:30–6:30pm. Outside of those windows the journey is smooth and typically under 20 minutes.
